Liliana Arena: Maghar, a Naim Araidi

A Maghar

Liliana Arena e Naim Araidi

e all’intifada

Crede nell’amore Naim
e il novantanove
vide per primo giungere quegli uomini.
Erano drusi, ebrei, ortodossi e musulmani

In questi quindici anni
a Maghar, possano accadere.

A Naim Araidi
e ai tanti fratelli che credono
nell’abbraccio universale della poesia.

To Maghar

He is a poet, Naim,
he came into the world to Maghar
and he has lived too many bombs with his eyes
to remain inert with his head bowed.

I smiled at him without ever speaking
I would have not understood his language
but I read of his Galilee from his hands.

Naim believes in poetry
and in intifada
he yelled at the poets of many religions and many languages
to sing with a single voice.

Naim believes in love
and the ninety-nine
he first saw those man coming.
They were Druze, Jewish, Orthodox and Muslim
they all praised one God with other names.
Some came from Gaza.

Naim believes in the dream
and the sky has protected him.
In these fifteen years
many came with their songs
and they taught the world, just like miracles,
to Maghar, they can occur.

To Naim Araidi
and many brothers and sisters who believe
in the universal embrace of poetry.
