armiku apo populli i tij, prandaj kultura bëhet absolutisht thelbësore.
A
I
e
parlano l’uno all’altro
nel
silenzio fragoroso del linguaggio della morte.
Non
riuscivo a capire:
i
bambini in tenera età vivono
e
i
bambini massacrati non hanno lingua,
come
il cielo testimonia.
Sembrava
parlassero
ma
non riuscivo a capire,
i
bambini in tenera età vivono
e
ancor più teneramente vanno alla morte.
Così
il poeta scriveva.
Dio
del cielo,
che
comprendi molto di più
tutto
Morte
qui, morte là,
un
bimbo qui, una bambina là,
strappati
alla vita condotti alla morte:
un
pianto non ancora iniziato,
un
pianto non ancora finito.

Për kërdinë në fëmijë
A
Nuk foli Hebraisht, as Arabisht,
Asnjë gjuhë tjetër nuk përdori –
Fëmijët e therur nuk kanë gjuhë,
Sikundër do të dëshmojë edhe vetë zoti i lum.
Dhe
m’u duk se folën,
Por
nuk arrita t’i kuptoja
Fëmijët
në moshë të dhimbshme,
Dhe me vdekje fort më hidhëruese.
Kështu
tha poeti:
zoti
i lum në qiell,
Që
i kupton dyfish
Të
gjitha gjërat që bëtë me mençurinë tuaj –
Mençurinë
tuaj s’e bluan dot koka ime.
Nuk
ju padit.
B.
Dhe,
për një çast, gjërat
Që nuk duhen harruar,
Harrohen:
Njeriu ka arsye,
Kafsha ka tru,
Por
nuk e di
Se
cili syresh do ta ketë më të lehtë
Kur
poeti të nxjerrë në shesh
Të
fshehtën gjakatare të vdekjes.
Vdekje
këtu, vdekje atje –
Një
bir këtu, një bijë atje –
Shqyer
copë-copë në jetë dhe në vdekje.
Kjo
është kuja që nuk ka filluar,
Kjo
është kuja që nuk ka të mbaruar.
La quiete del villaggio
Nonostante tutto,
la tranquillità regna nel villaggio,
agli incroci tra la Galilea Superiore
e quella Inferiore.
Io e i miei cinque figli ci chiediamo,
uno per tutti e tutti
per uno.
Mia moglie Carmelite
Nonostante tutto,
siamo io e mia moglie
e i nostri cinque figli
e il silenzio. E il dormire
non arriva
su di me.
On the massacre of children
A.
Small children locked eyes to eyes
and spoke to one another, and another to one
in the silent, noisy language of death.
I couldn’t understand a thing-
children of tender years
and more tender deaths.
So said the poet:
neither Hebrew nor Arabic,
nor any other language-
slaughtered children have no tongues
as the heavens will bear witness.
And it seemed that they spoke
and I could not understand,
children of tender years
and more tender deaths.
So said the poet:
God in Heaven
who understands doubly
all things You made in Your wisdom-
Your wisdom is beyond me.
I do not accuse you.
B.
And for a moment the things
that must not be forgotten
are forgotten:
man has reason,
animal has a brain,

lasciatemi solo,
per non perdere la strada,
lasciatemi guardare indietro,
e, l’anima, che muore con Gomorra.

Un filo sottile mi lega a voi,
tiratelo, che mi liberi,
e lasciatelo libero, che lo ritiro:
voi vi sentite uguali.

qualcosa tra me e loro
rompe

Banorët e Galilesë
1
Banorët
e Galilesë, të fortë sa dielli,
Të
ashpër sa guri, të butë sa lisi,
Flakë
nxjerrin si zjarret e Sodomës,
Të
njomë si kripa e detit,
Larg,
fort larg, nga trupat e vet.
Dhe,
nga largësia e afërsisë,
Dhe,
nga largësia e largësisë,
E
kap litarin në të dyja anët,
Njëra lidhur
Në qafën time,
Tjetra
në qafën e tyre,
U
thërras:
Banorë
të Galilesë,
Lërmëni
vetëm,
Që
të mos humbas rrugën,
Lërmëni
të shikoj mbrapsht,
Dhe,
shpirtin, lërmani të ndërrojë jetë me Gomorën.
2
E
taposura me gripin e Galilesë.
Do
Ndaj tim biri.
People of the Galilee
1
People of the Galilee are strong as the sun
crude as the terebinth gentle as the oak
burning like the fires of Sodom
moist as the salt of the sea
so far from their bodies.
And from the distance of closeness
and from the distance of distance
I grasp the rope at both ends
one tied
to my neck,
one to their neck,
cry out to them,
People of the Galilee!
Leave me alone
so I won’t be lost!
Let me look backwards
and my soul die with Gomorrah.
2
A thin thread binds me to you
pull on it and I go slack
and let it go slack and I pull!
You feel the same way.
All the people of the Galilee
were born from my womb
to be against me
and I from their womb to be against them.
I am of another mind.
They are but men
and something between me and them
breaks the laws of their fathers and sons.
In spite of me in spite of
their anger
I and the people of the Galilee walk
on a tight gallows rope of mine
or perhaps of theirs.
3.
Breaches are mended in spite of the Galilee snows.
Olive trees bear fruit in winter
and the great stones grind everything together-
the oil to soothe our wounds
and the olive-dregs breathe attar in our nostrils
stopped up with the grippe of the Galilee.
I will go on ripping up my pages
and they will cut the rope between me and them
and blood shall flow.
I will be the victim to atone
for my sin
to my son.
