HARMONY'S LIGHT In fields of sorrow, flowers cease to bloom, As war's cruel grip devours all in sight. Let peace's song resound, dispelling gloom, For harmony shall guide us towards the light.     War's bitter winds bring forth destruction's tide, Leaving behind scars that time can't erase. Let empathy and compassion be our guide, And sow the seeds of peace in every place.     War's thunderous drums drown out cries for peace, Yet deep within, humanity still yearns. Let unity and love find their release, And watch as swords transform to plowshares' turns. In war's dark depths, innocence is lost, The cost of conflict stains our very core. Let understanding be our banner, tossed, And heal the wounds that war has caused before.

LUCI DELL'ARMONIA Nei campi del dolore, i fiori cessano di sbocciare, Mentre la crudele stretta della guerra divora tutto ciò che vede. Lascia risuonare la canzone della pace, dissipando l'oscurità, Poiché l'armonia ci guiderà verso la luce.   I venti amari della guerra portano avanti l'onda della distruzione, Lasciando cicatrici che il tempo non può cancellare. Lascia che l'empatia e la compassione siano la nostra guida, E diffondi semi della pace in ogni luogo.   I tamburi tonanti della guerra soffocano le grida di pace, Eppure, nel profondo, l'umanità brama ancora. Lascia che l'unità e l'amore trovino la loro liberazione, E guarda come le spade si trasformano in aratri.   Nelle oscure profondità della guerra, si perde l'innocenza, Il costo del conflitto macchia il nostro nucleo. EMBERS OF COMPASSION   War's relentless fury breeds despair and pain, Leaving behind shattered lives and dreams. Let empathy and kindness be our main, And bridge the gaps that war has torn, it seems.     War's fiery blaze consumes both land and soul, Leaving behind ashes of broken trust. Let compassion reign and hatred's flames control, And turn the tides towards peace, fair and just.

BRACI DI COMPASSIONE   La furia implacabile della guerra genera disperazione e dolore, Lasciando dietro di sé vite e sogni frantumati. Che l'empatia e la gentilezza siano la nostra guida principale, E colmino le lacune che la guerra sembra aver strappato.   La fiammeggiante ardente della guerra consuma sia la terra che l'anima, Lasciando dietro di sé ceneri di fiducia infranta. Che la compassione regni e controlli le fiamme dell'odio, E inverta le maree verso una pace giusta ed equa.

BLOSSOMS OF PEACE   In war's cold embrace, love withers away, And hope succumbs to the chaos and strife. Let peace's gentle touch lead the way, And bring an end to war's destructive life.     War's shadow looms, casting darkness on our days, But love's resilient light can never be denied. Let us unite, in peace's name, always, And forge a world where swords are laid aside.     War's battlefield, a tragic stage of pain, Where brothers and sisters turn to foes. Let understanding and dialogue regain, The chance for peace to flourish and to grow. In war's wake, cries of anguish pierce the air, As lives are shattered and dreams are lost. Let compassion and forgiveness repair, And break the cycle, no matter the cost.

FIORENTI DI PACE   Nel freddo abbraccio della guerra, l'amore appassisce, E la speranza cede al caos e alle lotte. Lascia che il tocco gentile della pace guidi la via, E ponga fine alla vita distruttiva della guerra.   L'ombra della guerra incombe, gettando oscurità sui nostri giorni, Ma la luce resistente dell'amore non può mai essere negata. Uniamoci sempre nel nome della pace, E forgiaremo un mondo in cui le spade sono deposte.   Il campo di battaglia della guerra, un tragico palcoscenico di dolore, Dove fratelli e sorelle si trasformano in nemici. Lascia che la comprensione e il dialogo riconquistino, La possibilità per la pace di fiorire e crescere. Nel risveglio della guerra, le grida di angoscia squarciano l'aria, Mentre vite vengono frantumate e sogni perduti. Lascia che la compassione e il perdono riparino, E rompano il ciclo, a prescindere dal costo.

Vincitore dell’International Poetry Contest (Visions - International, Washington, DC, 1996). Ha ottenuto i seguenti titoli: International Visitor (USA, 1992); Honorary Fellow in Creative Writing (Università

dell’Iowa, USA, 1992) e Fulbright Scholar (Università dell’Iowa, USA, 1993). Insegna attualmente Letteratura Comparata e Linguistica Contrastive presso l’Università di Tirana. Riceve nel 2023 il “Premio Pellicanolibri alla carriera”.

Ukë Zenel Buçpapaj, hailing from Tirana, is an esteemed Albanian writer, poet, translator, and scholar holding a Ph.D. in linguistics. He has published numerous books, both in Albania and abroad. His translations from English to Albanian encompass works of eminent poets and writers including Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, W.B. Yeats, Ana Achmatova, Arthur Rimbaud, Octavio Paz, Seamus Heaney, Allen Ginsberg, Philip Larkin, John Ashbery, Mark Strand, Rita Dove, Lucille Clifton, Sylvia Plath, Wallace Stevens, Gerald Stern, Carlos Williams, E.E. Cummings, Robert Lowell, Rabindranath Tagore, Jalaluddin Rumi, Yehuda Amichai, Ronny Someck, Naim Araidi, Anne Michaels, Cecelia Ahern, and Peter Carey, among others. Currently, he imparts knowledge in Comparative Literature and Comparative Linguistics at the University of Tirana. In recognition of his illustrious contributions to literature, he was awarded the “Pellicanolibri Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2023.
